Just bought used side pipes and have no idea as how to mount them on my '74 T-Top. Guess I need to make some sort of brackets, do I remove stainless body trim? They were off '69 Vet but came with no hardware. Please help...I don't want to butcher anything. Ron in San Diego
ron, can you please post some pics so that we can see what they look like? in most cases you will need to remove the side rocker panels to mount the sidepipes.

Definately need pics of the pipes to make a recommendation.

if you hit me with an e-mail off the list(wp23n-at-aol-dot-com) i will send you a paper i wrote recently on how i installed the patriots on my 78.
it is in .pdf format with photos so you might be able to take some ideas
or maybe even buy a set of brackets from patriot to do yours.
just be aware that i am by no means a journalist.
i am going to post it to the forum once i have a file sharing account
with a place to store it.

Don't mount them on your T-tops man, Thomas Edision once wrote on the theory of gravity, the heat from the exhaust would come in thru the windows. Although it might look cool...like a BIG RIG with the verticle pipes comeing up the winshield pillars.
Not to be repetitive but need to see some pics, my hooker side pipes came with brackes that mount to the frame kinda like a "[]LO" pipe on right, frame on left. There are holes already in the frame, u just have to fab some brackets. Good luck.

The factory holes in the frame didn't line up very well with the brackets when I installed the Hooker system. This may have been due to weak motor mounts etc. I couldn't even open the doors because of the angle of the pipe. I drilled a new hole in the frame rail on each side to get a better and straighter fit. Don't be scared if you have to do this. Now I have a perfect fit.
Good luck.
The Thrush sidepipes consist of a 2" inlet and straight pipe with a muffler in the middle. These slide into the covers that should have three pieces. The front 90 degree bends, a straight finned tube and the outlet. There are slots in the two end pieces that face the body. There are some U shaped brackets very similar to muffler clamps that fit over the inner pipe. There are L shaped brackets that go between the frame and these muffler clamps sticking through the slots.
Take a look at the picture that I pulled off ebay. What you see in the pic is just the covers. Usually you can find the covers, but not the inner pipes.
Let me know if this helps. I looked into doing the Thrush pipes a few years ago and decided not to. They do look cool.
They were listed for $150, bought them for $100. Same person (getting ready to move) sold me dual mufflers & exaust pipes with chrome tips off new Ford Mustang Cobra with less than 100 miles for even less...they were so pretty I couldn't resist even though I don't have anything to put them on.
