Default Birdcage and rocker

I will be replacing the rear half of the frame on a 1971 and need to make the splice about 8 inchs behind the transmison cross member. In order to make the weld on the top of the frame I need to cut through the rocker under the sill plate. I know the bird cage has a piece beneath the rocker in this area. Is the fiberglass bonded to the birdcage in this area. I would like to remove a piece of fiberglass about two inches larger than the cage reinforcement so the cage can be welded back together then the rocker reglassed. Can the glass be cut and removed or does it need to be ground out to get to the cage.

A section of glass cover and rocker channel can be removed and reinstalled. I think where the rocker channel connects to the floor you might have a pretty big job. I believe the glass floor sandwhiches the rocker channel flange. Might no be so easy to put back together.

Here's a section of glass rocker channel cover I removed from an '82 last weekend. It wasn't really bonded to the rocker channel, just some caulk on the top.

At the location I'm making the frame splice I won't need to cut into the floor. There is just enough room to get a welder in and do the frame but not have to remove the rocker all the way to the floor. Thanks for the photo. Its nice to know whats there before cutting.

why not just lift the body off the frame high enough to weld the frame section?
sounds like a better way to do it than just cutting anything.
