Default Exhaust for a C3 info

Not sure if this will be considered out of line or not, but it is not an endorsement or sale of items, these comments are merely what I wish I had found in these forums in a concise way while I've been researching replacing the exhaust on my 82 C3.

I live in NC, ironically, bout the same time I read and started researching exhaust and found Stan's headers in these forums, I had a business trip planned for WA state, I'm just 7 miles from Stan's.

He invited me to come by and talk about it as I want to install true duals on my 82. As an old time wrench, I must say I have rarely had the opportunity to converse with someone as technical and friendly in a specialty as Stan. He went very in depth of all he can do for me with my ordering parts and is incredibly willing to bend over backwards to work with a local installer in my area to get what I ultimately want.

Now to his headers specifically, they are absolutely beautiful. I have seen alot of headers over the years, I have never seen such a nice piece of work for the money IMO. I decided to go with ceramic coated, and again, interestingly, his chosen coater is literally right around the corner so I got to go spend some time there and understand that process as well. Very impressive, the company Stan has coat is header has a very nice process and does some very impressive work.

If your interested in headers for you vehicle, I feel very comfortable suggesting you look at his products before deciding on a purchase.

I'm very excited :-) I'm going with his Tri-Y units, in titanium colored coating and having him fab out a 2.5" X pipe for me to place behind my converters, going with magna flow mufflers in stainless and the rest of the system will be built by a local fab shop for me form 409 stainless. If they can't mandrel bend I can get all my bends from Stan and have them assembled locally. Should be a very attractive system with the coating and stainless and be around a long time can't wait to get it all done.

So much writing and you didn't even mention primary tube size or cost of the headers. I'm sure you'll be happy with the exhaust though, especially if you're upgrading from stock. What kind of cats will you be using? I'm using Magnaflow 3" highflow cats, they flow better than flowmasters. I would definitely recommend them.

Thanks for the info on the verters torque, I haven't made the final decision on them yet. I will have a 2.5" system from the collectors back and will need to find some "bullet" style to nest them sequentially under the floor boards. Naturally I want some "high flow" type, but I figure that going from the single factory converter to dual, even if they were equal to the total flow of the factory converter would be a 100% improvement. I'll be buying stainless collector adapters from stan, the right collector adapter will have a O2 sensor bung welded in, I'm hoping, and he feels the same that will be close enough to the heat, especially with the thermal headers to keep enough heat on the unit to stay in closed loop without having to wire in a heated 02 sensor.

Edit, I have no idea what the primay size is honestly, I didn't ask as this isn't a maximum effort motor and I consider anything an improvement over stock. I would offhand say they are 1.5", Stans units were very smooth into the Tri'Y collectors, and very smooth as they blend into the 2/1/2/1 format. I'll add I was impressed in the coated versus the chrome, which are less expensive. The coated being internal and externally coated did alot to fill in the minor voids inherent in the design. The collectors although a 3" to the best of my knowledge and I'll be running 3/2.5" adapters running into the pipes.
