Anybody using these on a street driven small block with headers and how do they sound? I would like to use them directly in the collectors and lose the exhaust system if possible.

I'm running them with a side exit (not side pipes) and they are really loud. I actually have 3 inserts in each pipe and it is too loud for extended street driving and I like loud cars. I will say that they sound awesome, especially at high rpm. They really sound like open headers only quieter. I ran an experiment of running no inserts then progressively adding them and I could tell the difference each one made but I still don't have it quiet enough. I am running a 3 disk 3" in the collector, a 3 disk 3" in the pipe right at the transmission crossmember and then a 3 disk 2.5" at the end of the pipe as it exits the car just forward of the rear wheel. I still need to experiment with running them out the back rather than side exit. That would probably cut the sound level a bit.
