Going to installi carpet and seat covers in my 80 Coup; is the seat covers already mounted worth the extra money? (I have absolutly no experience)!
Who has the best value on complete interiors?
Also, is the 100% leather really worth $200 plus more than the 'Leather Like' seat covers?
I purchased mounted seat covers for my '80 coupe. I had originally bought seat covers and had an upholsterer put them on.They did not turn out right. I spoke to several upholsterers and they said it was very hard to get the wrinkles out. I went ahead and bit the bullet and order installed seat covers on the new cushions from Davies. I was very satisfied. I would advise you to purchase everything from the same supplier so it all matches. I don't believe there is a big difference in price if you have an upholster put seat covers on as compared to buying them installed. Of course you save money if you can do it yourself.
Once again, I was in the same boat you were. I bought the mounted seat covers from Mid-America. They were drop shipped from Al Knoch in El Paso. I got the original leather/vinyl. Good quality all around. They even make the car smell new. One thing to consider. If you're tall, the new foam may put your head up against the T-tops. The new foam raises you up about an inch, and after six months, hasn't "broken in" to the point where the old foam was. If I was to do it again, I'd recover my original foam, just to ensure my head height wasn't raised too much.
Other things to do while you have the seats out:
1) Repair any cracks in your seat buckets, then repaint original color.
2) Don't forget to replace the carpet on the back of the seat.
3) If your seat hinges are "giving" (popping back when applying pressure; like when you're digging for change at the toll booth) pull the hinges, pop the circle clip, and insert a thin metal washer to "tighten" up the hinges. Has worked great for me.
4) Replace the acorn nuts on the seat hinge posts.

Re: Mounted Seat Covers? (Kloppy80)
Just put my seats in with new leather covers from Corvette America, got a local uphosterer
to put them on over old foam. Really happy with the results but it was expensive.
