When I had my 73 down doing the 5spd install I took the time to do several other things. One of those was to install a MSD modual, coil, cap, and rotor in my HEI dist. Now when I start the car the Passport detecter goes crazy. It will alarm on x band then alarm on laser continuosly. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix.
I don't want to hear this. I just bought a passport radar detector for the vet, haven't tried it yet but I run 4 msd boxes under the dash.
I sure hope yours is an issolated problem.
I havn't hooked up the box yet, only the upgrades to the dist. I moved the detector to the durango this morning and drove to work. It worked fine.

Mine is in my Dodge truck right up behind the mirror. I want to move it to the vet when I go on my weekly runs to some cruise night. Usually Brian/Vettr runs out front with his detector protect Doug and myself
I emailed MSD and recieved a reply. The suggested I put a coat of dielectric grease on the plug wire connections, rotor contactl and coil contacts. Although I knew this just would not work I tried it anyway.
To my amazment it worked great, Passport working great and it appears I have better radio reception.
Well, mine did the same thing in my 73, just went crazy, so I'm going to have to try the dielectric grease, you say you put it on the plug wires at the dist end and the module as well as the dist to coil plug, right.
got to try that, thanks for the info
Interesting subject guys....My theory is that with a capacitive multiple discharge system the switching speed is high enough to produce microwaves....this will be very close to the radar frequency band. By putting dielectric grease on the parts you are preventing the waves from propagating....Pretty Slick and good info to know.
