Default [engine builder] any idea what this guy is talking about?

First off I'm an American living in Germany. I'm attempting to get my engine rebuilt, however I'm having a hard time with the combination of my lack of knowledge about engines and the language barrier between the two of us.

The engine builder called me up and told me that he needs a plastic piece (or spacer) that goes between the distributor and the oil pump. I have no idea what he is talking about. Can anyone tell me what this part might be called or where I can get one?

I dropped off a brand new distributor (still in the unopened box, with all original contents). However, I was planning on reusing my original oil pump. Is this part, whatever it is, usually included in the purchase of a new oil pump?

Thanks again for any help I can get. You guys have always been an indispensable source of knowledge

He may be talking about the plastic sleeve that is used to hold the oil pump drive shaft to the pump. Most aftermarket HP have a metal sleeve pinned to the shaft.....in this picture you can see it on the pump end of the shaft, stock uses a plastic one...

Check out this link and you may find what it is. Sounds like he is talking about the plastic sleeve.

If you have a GM dealer nearby try out part #3764554 on them.

They usually come in the gasket kit AND the oil pump box. You should have a couple laying around...and most engine builders have bunches of them. Or you can just get a HD driveshaft for it with a steel sleeve.

Talking bout that steel sleeve...have them tack weld it in place....and do the same with the pickup screen assembly....they can also shave the pump base for proper clearance as well as shim the pressue relief spring for more pressure.

Forget the factory plastic sleeve all they are good for is cracking.
buy a new oil pump shaft with a metal sleeve. braze the oil pump
pickup to oil pump.

You have an engine builder that relies on you to get the parts????

Try ACP euskirchen ( http://www.acp-euskirchen.de ) or Weindel ( http://www.weindel-us-teile.de ) or whatever in Germany and get a steel shaft from ARP

The $1.00 GM retainer is perfectly suitable for normal/street use.

you fail to understand that he's in germany, probably no GM dealer there has the sleeves, just Opel parts...

So, if it's an ordeal getting the cheap parts, might as well get some better quality.

Agreed TT. I was just giving him an option. There must be some Chevrolet V8s in Europe. That part has been around forever. If need be I can air mail him one free of charge.

Thanks for the offer, but I just placed an order for one. I paid about 69 cents

There are some Chevy V8s over here, but they really are few and far between. In the part of Germany that I live in (Bavaria) I have only seend 2 other C3s in the 3+ years that I've lived here. For the most part, I have never seen a German driving a classic American muscle car. If I see one, 99% of the time it is driven by an American Soldier.

Once again thanks for the help
