What is it with C3 radio prices, I mean I'm not looking to buy a radio station I just want a radio. For what people are asking for these radios I can buy a HECK of a good aftermarket sound system. Sorry but sometimes you just have to get things off your chest !!!! :D OK I feel better now. :seeya
How much and for what year? Would just like to know as I have a '69 Am-Fm in the garage and might let it go. Found an Am-Fm stero at the swap meet for cheap years ago and swapped that into the car.
My suggestion is not to go with an aftermarket stereo that fits the bezel. I have one of those expensive ones and I really don't like it. It's really a super cheap model that has simply had the **** spacing changed and a new faceplate added. The 175 dollar Sony I got for my pickup at Best Buy works better. I suggest buying an extra center guage cluster bezel and hacking it up to fit in a real stereo and keep the original for when you sell the car.
I think the reason they're expensive is that a lot of people are looking for factory correct original radio's for their cars...to replace aftermarket radio's installed previously. I don't know all the differences for every year, but some have white numerals, some green, some are mono...some are stereo, some even have CB, there are different *****, etc. Some might be specific for a few years only. I see them on EBAY all the time. They seem to sell fairly cheaply. Hope this helps. Chuck
I've found most of the '77 and later radios to be in the $50.00 to $150 range for AM/FM (possibly with cassette or the coolest of all - 8track) in useable condition - restored and/or CB options usually a little more. If you are without factory ***** this can add to the price - I'm not sure about the "this year" "that year" nature of these - but as with anything else single year models will cost according to rarity (of, course everything on ebay is "rare" and "mint" - now that I think about it) If this is what you are looking for email me and I'll try to find a email address or two - where you can get these radios in this price range (unless they've gone up).
It's all supply and demand. Low supply and high demand. How about paying a couple hundred dollars for a lighted vanity mirror. It's just a piece of crappy plastic that if used will probably break again in a couple of years.
When I was looking for a radio for my 82 I figured that that GM used the same style in most of there cars around that era. So i visted the local pick your own part a found i was correct exact same style color match I found in a cadaliac Paid $25.00 . But it still sounds like an older raidio. SO i am going to cut up the dash and put in a good cd player stereo. I will keep the old one in case. [IMG][/IMG]
When I bought the vette, the previous owner had installed an original AM/FM/Cass, plus he had a AM/FM that had some electrical power problems. I ended up selling the spare to someone on the forum for $125 because the going price at the time for one from a salvage yard was $250.
I also installed a modern AM/FM/CD by cutting the bezel, but kept the old radio as an "investment".
