I have a 1976 corvette that has been through hell and back. I purchased it as a project from the ground up and I do not know much about mechanics, The rims on the car are stuck and I am having trouble removing them. I dont want to damage the rims, but I have tried like HELL to get the off. What has been the best methods to remove stuborn rims.
Are they aluminum wheels? I have had this problem with my son's S10 Blazer. I just took a crowbar to the inside of the wheel and found something to pry against (maybe the strut rod end?) and gave it a good rap. It popped right off. You can even pry against the tire if you are too worried about the rim.
will the hammers damage the rim, or as long as i dont hit the rim too hard and use padding such as a 2x4 or deadblow hammer, it will be fine???
i have a tendancy to get too involved with the deconstruction and ruin pieces and parts and i am trying to take a more thoughtful approach and be careful to damage as little as possible.

A rubber/deadblow hammer will not damage the rims, but don't miss and hit the fender....

take the lug nuts off but leave one nut on with a couple of threads to hold the wheel when it breaks loose. with a rubber / deadblow hammer, hit the wheel backside lip area a few times then rotate the wheel a little and hit it again, repeat until the wheel comes off. good luck
Its most likely stuck on the center hub.Spray some WD 40 and try what they all said. Also if the car drives,we used to loosen the lugs a few turns and drive it a few feet and hit the brakes a few times.Works like a charm.
