Default Exhaust size question

Re-doing the exhaust on the 1977. Stock engine, auto, nothing special performance wise. We are getting rid of the side pipes and was not sure if I should go 2 1/2 or 2 1/4 pipes and mufflers. What will fit through the holes?

I am going to get the Flowmaster American thunder 40 series, but not sure what size.

Let me know what will fit.

Thanks

I had 2/12 installed and it clears the sides of the holes just fine....sounds awsome with the FlowMasters on it..

If you go with the smaller size you might end up being restricted if you decide add more performance mods. 2 1/2" will be the best choice.

No reason to go with 2 1/4 go with 2 1/2 gives you room to grow.

Sounds good guys thanks for the replys!!

I was not sure how big the holes in the frame are. I would rather go 2 1/2 but was unsure if it would fit.

I will go with 2 1/2. Right now this car is my dads and all stock in the engine, but it wont last forever and would like to with a bit more power when the time comes.
