Default Pace Car Dyno results

I just got back from the dyno. What is a good % drivetrain loss number to use on a TH350 auto? 18%?

I am pretty happy with these results. My motor was a stock L-48 originally. It was rated at 185 hp flywheel.

Not bad -- looks like you leaned out a little in the mid range --- I am sure Lars can help you on that !!

Actually, the tuner said it was way too rich. You could smell the gas, but no cats.

We video taped everyone running on the dyno. Here's mine:

Sounds REALLY good on the dyno.

Sorry - I read the chart wrong -- .

If I remember correctly, probably not, your want to stay between 13.1 and 14.1 on the air/fuel ratio.

Also know that leaner runs hotter. So if you have any cooling problems now -- get those fixed first.

So... what are we looking at? 4400 RPM is the best ratio for HP & torque?

On my engine, that feels about right. But, as you can see, seat of the pants (torque) seems to keep increasing through that range up to 5200 (as per the equation).

Rhys, I just had mine on the dyno today too. The rule of thumb for loss though the drivetrain is about 15% for manual and 20% for auto. This is just a rough estimate but should be close.

That is what I thought. I think we were using 15% manual and 18% auto on our C5's. I was not sure if there was a difference on a C3 driveline.

That puts me around 257-263 engine. Not bad for the small mods.

What did you pull?

Yeah, those are pretty good numbers. Are your heads stock?

As far as my dyno numbers, Lets just say that I was a little diappointed given the amount of effort that I have put into the top end of that engine over the past several years. It's about time for me to start ordering parts from Summit now :D I was very impressed with the numbers that the C5 cars were producing. The stock Z06 and other LS-1's were all over 300hp at the wheels. :chevy

Not stock heads. They are stock heads off of some other 70's chevy motor. 993's or something. That was my first purchase on the vette. Old ones were cracked badly with leaking vavle seals. The shop had a set already set up. I think I should consider them "stock" though.

At least I am closer to the rwhp of my C5. Still a lot to go! I was kind of hoping the motor was going to blow up during the run. That way I could do it right (like Nomad78SA). Now THAT is a 78 with some *****!

I though I was the only one hoping for that :D If it wasn't for the fact that it is my numbers matching block, I may have just put a brick on the gas pedal and let it blow. :smash: :smash: :smash: I have been putting a lot of thought into building a 383. Now it's time for me to stop thinking and start building :yesnod

Tommy boy, I'll give you a hand with your motor if you need it. Just so I can learn the ins and outs of engine building... and maybe can be a bit more help when we work on mine. I'm shooting for 1500 rwhp. ;) Actually, 280 or so.. but hey. 265 wouldn't be bad either...

Tom and Steve,

I want to hear all the details! Had to work today and will be tomorrow afternoon too. Now that you have a baseline you can make the appropriate changes. This is where it can get into a lot of fun!

Didn't baseline mine, Chuck... may do that with a G-Tech if I ever get the motivation to buy one.

Now that the experts are back from Carlisle, can anyone tell me if 18% is the right number for driveline loss on my 78 auto?

Okay, dyno experts.

So what does it say when torque drops off continually? Is Rhys not getting enough flow
into the heads to sustain the torque?

Rhys, your dyno results are virtually identical to mine, both curve and the HP/TQ numbers (I'm 2 higher on torque). What mods do you have?

Started with stock L48 motor. Replaced the heads with some "993" chevy heads, Comp Cam 268H, roller rockers, edelbrock performer intake and dual exhaust (no cats)

Thanks! Other than the cam as listed in the signature below(XE262), mine is a 327 bored .30 over, hypereutectic pistons, "double hump" L79 heads with the 2.02/1.60 valves, 58cc chambers. Stock intake and exhaust manifolds and dual exhaust. What size valves, combustion chamber in your heads? Did you dyno before your changes to get a baseline? I didn't....wish I did!
