If you can find a new GM unit that is the best I can say. I used a Summit and have had real problems with it. If I could go to a Chevy dealer I would have but they don't have such a thing over here.
I've heard some positive things about these guys http://www.performancedistributors.com/
Unlike Accell, Mallory, MSD etc, they actually set each individual advance curve to work with your particular car. Plus, I think they're having a sale on Chevy HEIs.
Check 'em out!

I have used DUI on two cars.
I have thier HEI with tach drive in the vette now. great company good service. send them you engine specs , the will set up the unit on a distributor machine and all you have to do is hook up the wire and go
noticed an immeditate difference. this prices are on the top end, but you do get the extra service of the custome set up
Salvage yard, 74-79 chevy HEI distributor, probably around $25.
I'll probably get flamed on this one, but...I'd be very surprised if there is any true measurable performance difference between a stock HEI distributor and any aftermarket one, assuming same advance weights/springs and vacuum can.
There is one from Ecklers...Corvette Distributor, With Vacuum Advance, Hi-Performance HEI, 1975-1980...139.99. My motor is mostly stock.....should this one be fine?

No flame here. Use the stock weights and a Mr. Gasket curve kit with lighter springs and new bushings and you'll be good to go. Just make sure everything moves freely. If you feel like spending some money you could replace the pickup coil when you have it out for extra insurance and carry a spare module.
