Well I've lost a battle. The brake line to the rear broke; it probably would have to have been cut anyways. However, I think I should replace all the brake lines as they are basically fused on to the proportioning valve. However, I'm confused. What is a brake line with or without armor? Which one do I need. Should I just buy the brake line kit from Ecklers? Please let me know what you all think.
I replaced all of my lines except the one running fore to aft that may or may not require a body lift to get at it. Even in SS they are not that $$$ and its easy to do. Might have to use a little heat and vice grips. Be careful take your time. Mine came with the spiral armor that you refer to on some of them.
The springs wrapped around some brake and fuel lines is used to help cool the fluid in the lines. The surface area of the spring acts like a heat sink for the lines. With up to 1200lb pressure in the lines the fluid tends to get rather hot, houstonvett
You can get an entire SS brake line kit, pre-bent, flared with nuts already on them plus armour (spring around the line to also help protect) for about $150 +tax/shipping. I would recommend doing them all since you are up in the air. Go to www.inlinetube.com or any of the supporting vendors could hook you up! Good Luck!
I got SS lines from muskegon brake. I did all of the lines with the car up on jack stands including the front to rear...which just took a bit of bending persuasion.
