You shouldn't have a problem at all, as long as its the original manifold. I would recommend though upgrading that manifold to at least a performer, which you can find very cheaply used.
the 1806 (650 cfm AVS style) thunder carb is a better choice if you want a edelbrock style carb, the secondarys are much better (more adjustable and a better design)and the primary jetting is also closer to being correct for most engines than the 1406 performer(AFB style)
I've got a Performer 1406 on my crate 350 H.O. I'm happy with it and haven't had any problems.
The jetting will probably be pretty close but I bought their jetting kit, part #350-1487, and went one stage leaner.
For installation you will need to get one of their banjo fitting fuel line elbows if you don't want a rubber line making a 90 degree turn out the side of the carb. Part # is 350-8126.
Another problem you will probably have is clearancing the electric choke with your stock air cleaner. I bought an offset base 14" X 2" air cleaner from Jegs, part #555-50021, which solved this problem and left plenty of hood clearance.

[/QUOTE] You will need the above and unless I missed something, you are also going to need the adapter plate to put a square bore carb on a spread bore manifold. Here's the bummer; after you do all of this, you will have a set up that your stock carb could blow away if it were set up correctly! I have replaced a q-jet with a Carter / Edelbrock square bore carb and learned that lesson the hard way. There's nothing like opening up those big q-jet secondaries. I when back to the Rochester and that's all I use on my toys now (still have the Edelbrock sitting in a box for the last couple of years with a kit waiting for me to rebuild and sell it). This is the carb I put on mine and it was bolt and go as far as the calibration. The things you will have to buy extra are the bracket to hold your throttle linkage and the stud mounting kit. Why Edelbrock doesn't include $.50 worth of studs with the carb is beyond my understanding but that's how it is. I got the throttle linkage bracket from Summit and it seems to work fine. You will also need to connect your fuel line. I got the fuel line kit pictured below but without the AN fuel filter. My fuel line has a nipple so I could connect stainless hose to it which I ran from the fuel pump to fuel inlet.
If you don't already have one you will probably also need a drop base air cleaner with a 2 1/2 inch filter element. Mine required a 1/4 inch spacer to clear the electric choke. I forgot to mention, my carb is mounted on a performer manifold.

Get a new intake while your at it......But DO NOT LEAVE THE STOCK AIR CLEANER ON THE CAR with the new EB carb. The throttle linkage will hang up under the air cleaner........ask me how I know.........
Another suggestion....if your motor is not in very good running condition with good compression, I would not buy the EB carb. It dumps a lot of gas, and you need to be able to burn it!!
I am listening to these comments with great interest as I to have an 80 that I am interested in some of those very same upgrades with the necessary adjustments.The part number for the air filter is very helpful. There seems to be alot of recommendations to reuse the quadrajet instead of other aftermarket carbs. My problem being finding somebody to rebuild my carb. I think I may be leaning toward reusing my quadrajet. Brent
If your car is an automatic you'll probably need a kickdown bracket, Q-jet has the fuel filter attached to it, Edelbrock you'll probably need an inline one, you may need a few other small things linkage-wise and/or fuel-delivery wise.
This may be a dumb question but if it has an EGR valve on it why would you not use a #1400 ? What is the performance differance in the 1405, 1406 and the 1400 ? I don't know, I'm just asking.
Iv said it before and Ill say it again..the proper mixture will depend on your elevation.. I have installed Edelbrocks in Denver 5280' above sea level and I have installed them in Myrtle Beach SC at 17' and either way you have to adjust them. Rods are about $3.00 a pair and will most likely be able to solve the problem. Just look in the owners manual and they will include a mixture chart that is dependant upon your elevation and you should be good to go. I think folks get scared of them because they are different than Hollys but once you know the secret (there is none) you can tune them easily.
Also, never believe anybody that tells you something is "Bolt on and go".

That is what I chose to use and I love it. You will need their EGR valve relocator which costs $50
This may be a dumb question but if it has an EGR valve on it why would you not use a #1400 ? What is the performance differance in the 1405, 1406 and the 1400 ? I don't know, I'm just asking.
the 1400 has a lean calabration to make it CARB aproved, but you can rejet it to run like a non smog carb. the thunder (1806) has a better secondary design that flows better and opens cleaner than the performer style (1406)
I have an Edelbrock EPS manifold #2107 & a 1406 carb with K&N 3" X 14" air cleaner element in my 78 and it fits under the hood fine. Actually I have a 1406 carb for sale if interested ???, 1000 miles on it, works perfect, never a problem, guarenteed !! My new motor came with, you guessed it an Edelbrock carb, so I have a couple of them.

I have the 1406 carb stting on top of my manifold. I bought a Mighty Demon 750 cfm carb last February (still new in the box) I will send it to Lars for set up. Once I get appropriate lines/ fittings, and appropriate likages for it, I'm throwing the EB in the trash can. I also have a Weiand Stealth manifold. I'm also going to throw the EB mainfold in the trash too. Based on my experiences with EB, I'm not going to buy anything else from them.
