ideas on no go ignition?
Hey guys, I went to fire up the beast yesterday. New battery, started fine 9 weeks ago. Not a click or anything at the solenoid. Lights come on, gauges come on, radio comes on. Is there a relay or some switch somewhere that cuts out the current to the starter? We just did a redo on the interior all the way. Do you need to have the clutch pushed in to get ignition? Is there something we didn't get hooked up right? 72 convertible 4 speed TIA:
Clean your battery posts & terminal connections...
I kid you not; wire brush them well, make them shine.
This has happened to me several times in my old man years. If you don't know about the clutch, then just push it in and try it. If nothing else, it will eliminate that as a problem...also, ensure that they're nice and tight when you're done.
go get the battery load tested at your local autoparts store. Can't really tell from your message but it implies that you have not tried to start it in the past 9 weeks. IF you had some battery drain during these past 9 weeks, then you may have drained the battery. However, from the symptoms you describe (lights work, etc) it really seems like the dirty terminal issue.
Yes you have a clutch switch in your car.You could have knocked the wire off the switch. Its on the clutch inside the car,two wire connector. If the switch went bad you can do a temporary wire around, just jumper the two wires.Put it back as soon as possible.

The problem is: you turn the key and no starter action. Lights radio gauges, yes; starter no. I doubt it is the starter. That's why I began asking about a switch or something in the interior since that is what I (BUBBA) took apart.
did you check the safety switch on the clutch pedal ? did you check to see if you have 12 volts at the S terminal on the starter with the key in the start position and the clutch depressed?
