Default squeaking noise

Hi
I know that noises can be difficult to diagnose without hearing them, but i would appreciate some ideas on this one.
It is a squeaking noise that i can only hear from inside the car, as far as i can tell it is coming from the torque convertor/front of gear box/rear of engine.
In drive at part/full throttle it goes away. If i lift off it sounds like a small rodent trying to get out :jester The frequency of the squeaking reduces as engine speed/road speed reduces. In neutral and coasting it is much reduced but still their. In park at standstill when i rev the engine it is also much reduced (but still their). I have checked for anything obviously fouling/rubbing but cannot see anything but the sound is slowly getting worse and driving me mad :mad other than this the car is running well.
Could it be the torque convertor or gearbox (th400) oil was right on the bottom of the dipstick when i topped it up but adding oil made no difference.
Help!!! and thanks in advance.

Since it is closely related to engine speed, and it is a light squeaky, rubbing kind of noise from the rear of the engine, I would check the tachometer drive cable off the distributor. It may be running dry, and if it is getting worse, the cable may fail if it isn't lubricated.
