I need to replace the a/c evaporator in my 1972. The shop manual makes it sound easy, but as I started, it became apparent that it might be a bigger job than I thought. Has anyone replaced theirs? Does it come out from under the hood or from the dash? Would I be better off having a corvette shop do the whole job? I was hoping to save money by replacing the evaporator and compressor myself, then have the shop charge the system, but I am having second thoughts. I've had the car for over 28 years, and other than wheel alignments, I have done all of my own work. I just don't know much about a/c! Any thoughts??
Mine needs to be replaced as well (1973)
Ill wait until you figure it out and then I'll draw off your sweat and newfound knowledge...
Seriously, I have the original GM Manual here and will look into it soon..
I'm almost positve theres a replacement desiccant cartridge for the evaporator..but you still need to get the thing out
If it's anything like my 79, then good luck. I gutted my interior & decided to update my A/C unit. Even with everything out of the way it wasn't easy. The bolts are on the inside of the car, but then again I was removing everything, maybe the clamshell case opens for somewhat easy access to just the evap.
