Default hood relase broke

this may be a 68 problem and a subsection at that but went to open my hood and snap the cable breaks,

so i search the forum for that thread with the trick and go to work and gues what.... no little opening to stick the screwedriver in on my 68. but you know what i did find, a square panel held in place by 4 bolts where the access should be. any one else ever see this?

havent tried it yet , cable should be here by thursday. ill post some pics if anyone is interested

Default Secret Spot

Mine broke on my 73. The secret opening is on the drivers side right at the location of the hood catch. Look in and there is a plastic plug. remove it and you will need a long screwdriver, but I found that a piece if small pipe worked better. Slide it in until it stops. I had to hit it with some force to get the release to spring the hood open. I tied a piece of wire to the release until I got a new cable. I don't know on the 68 but I would assume that the wiper door needs to be open to see it. Someone with an earlier C3 chime in.

Default new trick to fix hood release on 68/69

Soo.......A qucick story

I read all the threads, and prepared myself for a long PITA ordeal, and I got one. under the car, hanger wire in hand, I spend almost an hour trying to get my silly hood open, reeach up from drivers side..... nothing

Reach up from passenger side..... nothing

reach in from under the grill near the wiper door..... nothing

cursing, yelling .... screaming.... alll hope is lost .... despair

so im sitting next to him on the ground, crying in my beer and i happen to look up through the gills and what do i see ??????
The hood release mechanism, and a hole the exact size of a hanger wire. can it be this easy!?!?!?!?

so I reach in catch the hole and in 2 second flat the hood is open

fuel pump went in in 45 minutes ( had to go get some new hose).....

Im back in the saddle

cheers

My understanding is that '68 didn't have the secret hole; it was added in '69. If you have the plug/hole it is fairly easy. Practice before it breaks! Remove the plug. You can get your middle finger in to feel the latch (spare the jokes). Then take a normal length, fairly thick screwdriver and press against the latch and you cna get it to release. It saved me twice!

Default Where is this "secret hole"???

Can someone explain with some detail (because I'm a simple kind-of-guy) where the "secret hole" is? I don't have a problem yet, but if I ever do, it would be good to have the info before I go bananas.

Thanks!!
