Removeable Luggage Rack
Anyone tried to make one?
I would like a rack for weekenders without having it on all the time.
What if I fabricated a "T" to lock in the rear louvers connected to the front bar of the rack with some sort of nylon strap, used suction cups on the legs of the rack and extend two of the bars back enough to use hooks to clip to my bumpers. The rear would be adjustable with some sort of snap tighteners.
Do any of you with racks think there is alot of pressure (wind) to throw the thing off?
Do you think the rear louvers would hold with a "T" wide enough to clip say 4 of the cross bars in each louver.
Terry

Re: Removeable Luggage Rack (trw)
Okay since no one else has posted a comment I'll bite
That would be a really cool idea especially if it had t-top holders
I would think that if you didnt have to drill holes more people would have racks
Hope to see a pic if you do build one
ZD

Re: Removeable Luggage Rack (trw)
I've had my rack off and on and off again. Trickiest part is getting those little legs lined up with the screw holes.
I was nervous the first couple of times with the tops strapped on the back - checking out the rearview trying to make sure they weren't about to blow off and into the grille of the Mercedes behind me.
If you strap the tops to a strapped on rack.......

Re: Removeable Luggage Rack (trw)
If memory serves, and it usually doesn't, several aftermarket companies made removable racks for English sports cars. This was for vintage TR3s and Healeys. When you removed the racks, you had 4 chrome buttons on the trunck lid. Although I had a TR3, I did not purchase one of these racks.
A system like this might be adapted to a C3.
