On the 502 I torqued the heads, intake, fitted the headers, and then put the engine in the car. Headers got stole so when I went to bolt on the new headers they wouldn't fit on. I undid 1 bolt, took the washer out, retorqued the bolt. I did this for the remaining 7 bolts. Headers fit. SO do I take headers off, grind headers to fit with the washers on or am I ok? I tried to get thin enough washers but it's either mod headers or leave it the way it is. Comments or suggestions? TIA
I have aluminum heads so I did recheck the head bolt studs torque values after several heat cycles.
Are you talking about washer diameter or thickness. I would never grind on the headers! If it's washer dia I would just grind away one edge. If it's thickness your bolts are way to short.
When I used header bolts. I used allens and gooped the threads with red high temp RTV. Now that I have aluminum heads I have ARP studs installed with thread sealer.
It's makes me wonder about jerks who steal headers for nothing they would ever have or even someone else.

I was talking about the washer thickness. With the washers the bolts stick up too far, so it's no washers or mod the headers.
As far as the headers growing legs; they come for the stereos and the headers were there. They got the stereo out of the camaro out on my front driveway front too.
