Any ideas on why this(picture below)happened at 5500 ? Other pistons show no sign of detonation.Car drove into shop, initial timing was 12 with a total of 28.Nothing missing from inside of carb(throttle plates, screws or well plugs). In other words could not find anything that found its way into cylinder.Pistons are Keith Black---manufactures defect? Top ring end clearance was .026. Thanks
Cylinder walls look great and the ring gap was 026 which is correct for the top ring on this piston. The picture? %$&#*@ I cant figure out how to do it(dummy I guess).
Sounds like Msvetteman's problem. There is no way I would use hyper pistons on anything! I know there are some here that swear by them but my engine builder also says they are junk. The issue is to little clearance between the ringland and piston top and brittle metal, they break. He has built engines in a 1 man shop for 25 years and builds for circle track guys and lots of truck pullers. He is also rated as the best around by everyone in the area. The truck pull engines are Big Block Chevys and most are over 700 HP strokers and he won't use the hyper pistons.
I am using Mahle power pac forged on mine. They are a low expansion high silicon alloy. Best of both worlds, No additional clearances required ( .003) and forged for the strength you want. $500 with rings on E-bay!
