Default Quiet sidepipes?

Is there a such thing as quiet sidepipes? I am buying a 71 vert that will be for cruising so I wouldn't want them to be loud. That would get annoying. This car is for my wife, and she really likes the sidepipe look, but I wouldn't want it to sound too loud. I have seen the STS spiral things that go in the sidepipes and have heard of a couple of other things, but are any of them going to be relatively quiet? I would be doing stainless Hooker sidepipes if it makes any difference. Thanks

Default Hooker reverse flow

I resolved my issue with loud sidepipes with the big block reverse flows on my small block 327. Less restrictive and still quiets it down quite a bit. I am now building a 500 HP 383 stroker and bought a set of Max flows. They are loud, I don't care as I need the flow for big power. I am selling my hooker reverse flow mufflers and hooker chrome sidepipes now. Would take $325 for them that is less than a set of spiral baffles, with no sidepipe tubes that are much louder. They have less than 1500 miles on them and are in excellent, like new condition with no dings or scratches. They aren't quiet but sound about the same as standard dual exhaust and less restrictive than the small block versions. PM me if interested.

Not what you asked, but keep in mind the H E A T. Your lady may not appreciate the "shark bite" that so often comes with Hooker sidepipes.

I would STRONGLY suggest factory style sidepipes for a woman (shorter legged) driver. They don't get hot and still look the business.

I like the look of the hooker ones quite a bit. As far as heat, I am probably going to hold out for bankok dean to start making those real nice ones he has.

The big block reverse flows sound like a good idea. This car isn't a speed demon, the L48 isn't going to be blowing anyones doors off.

Buy heat shields for sure. Both my sons girl friend, and my wife received the "shark bite". After a year, the scar still shows. Nasty burn!

Hey 63mako, did you install the Max Flows you bought from me? Duke94

If you walk on her, the pipes will seperate from the header by pushing away from the car......then she will be nice and loud until you get back home.

Hey 63 mako, do you remember what the inlet diameter of the big block reverse flow muffler was? I did not know there were different sizes. The ones I use on long trips are very restrictive but nice and quiet.

Just removed them to sell to EDZRED 72 They are 2" inlet restrictive mufflers. But there are small block and big block reverse flows according to Summit where I bought these. They asked when I ordered. Must be an internal difference in the insert. Quiet does cost HP.
