I am ashamed I have to ask this question. I just had my 1969 Muncie M20 rebuilt with all new gears. What would be the best weight fluid to use? Also, do it take about 2 quarts?
I like BG Ultra-Guard synthetic SAE 75-140. I'm pretty sure mine took about 2 qts but can't remember for sure. Somebody will know. Get ready, I think I paid about $20/qt.
On the other hand, I just put cheap ol' Valvoline 80-90 in mine with a small bottle of teflon additive (not dangerous like putting Slick 50 in your motor; your tranny isn't pressure oiled). Works fine.
George, the Chief engineer at Autogear strongly recommends mineral/convential 80-90 with sub-spec of MT-1 on their new Muncies. Valvoline meets his requirement. He says the synchros won't work as well with syns.
