I have always ran a failsafe and that is all I put in my vette. I would rather the thermostat fail in the open position than fail closed. So to me, yes they are worth the extra money.
Never heard of it,how does it work? Is it open and then closes with heat---the warm up time must be extended.Thats not good.
It functions the same as a normal stat but if it fails it will go to the open position and stay there instead of failing in the closed position and staying closed
I put one in my car. It ended up failing during the winter so my car would never warm up because it was wide open. Atleast you know it works, I bought another.

Even in the winter, if it fails closed, you're still stuck.
