On the Jeep steering box install. Do you have headers and are you big block or small? I am thinking of piece mealing the install with a box from the pull apart yard but am concerned about header clearance. I am running the Dynomax headers on my 79 small block. Do you have any pictures with the engine in your car? I would appreciate any info you can give. Thanks
Yes I do have a big block with headers but I did recess the box further into the frame, I used a box from a forum member from a 2003 jeep and cut the frame and inserted a 3/8th plate so I didn't have to use an adapter.
You will also find the stock jeep box doesn't accept the stock vet pitman arm, you need to cut and weld the stock jeep arm if you want to use it.
Another problem with the stock jeep box is the flaming river Universal doesn't fit. The jeep box has .025 bigger flats. Of course you can file the flats down and then the universal fits.
The kit included everything for a direct bolt up for $675.
I have worked on one of the kits and it fit fine. The 2 boxes, jeep and corvette have the same clearance so if you stock box clears then so will the jeep box with the adapter.
If you go like I did you gain another 1/4- 3/8 clearance.
Norval thanks for the info and I have just one more question. Is the box off of a jeep cherokee or a grand cherokee and what are the years that will work. Thanks again.
