Radio
I just purchased a Custom Autosound from Corvette Central, (64 watts) AM/FM Cassette, ($159.00). I went to a electronics professional, who performs a ton of stereo work, and he told me, with no hesitation, it is nothing more than a $29 radio with Corvette stamped on the face plate. He said he wouldn't put that in his car.
I don't need a top of the line, but would like a descent one. Anybody help me on this? :U

"Kloppy"------
If the radio you purchased is just a DIN-chassis unit with the Corvette face plate, then your stereo guy is about correct in his assessment. A DIN-chassis radio does not have the Corvette-style ***** on either end.
On the other hand, if the radio which you purchased has the Corvette-style ***** on either end and is designed to fit within the stock Corvette bezel providing a "stock-like" appearance, then I think that your stereo guy is incorrect. In the latter case, the base radio may well be an inexpensive unit, but hat you're paying for is the mods to make it work in the Corvette dash while retaining a more-or-less stock, uncut dash.
If what you have is the DIN-chassis unit, you could likely do a lot better for $159 by going to Crutchfield and perusing their $159 units. Dial them up at http://www.crutchfield.com

Re: Radio (Joe Lucia)
I have seen these radios. They are (in my opinion) junk two post radios with Corvette on the tape door.
You can buy much better two post radios for the same prices and with better features.
I have also heard many people complain about the quality of the Custom Autosound radios in the past, and based on their experience, I will never buy one.

Re: Radio (BSeery)
I agree with BSeery. I have one of their 300 dollar ones which I saw in Best Buy later for 100 dollars (although with stock face plate and unmodified **** spacing). Certainly not worth it to me...and if I had it to do all over again, I would have gotten a regular DIN size stereo and an extra center guage cluster bezel, then modify the bezel to fit the DIN stereo in. Too bad I learned the hard way. If keeping a stock looking center guage cluster is really important to you though, you have little choice.

Re: Radio (Kloppy80)
What ever you do: keep in mind what the center console costs to replace. I just bought one because Bubba the car stereo specialist destroyed my center console in order to fit in a $100 pioneer stereo. The problem was the radio still did not fit the console.....

Re: Radio (Mark69)
I just did up the stereo in my car this weekend and it sounds great. The car came with the custom autosound kenwood unit that controls the CD changer. The deck is powering a set of pioneer 4x6 speakers in the stock location (no matter how good your deck is or how good your speakers are, 4x6 in the dash is going to sound like crap).
The key thing about the Kenwood deck is that is has pre-outs. I mounted a Rockford/Fosgate amp and the CD changer in the jack compartment, and the amp runs a set of alpine 6 in woofers and tweaters mounted in a custom face in the back wheel wells. Not an expensive setup and it sounds GREAT!
