Well after playing about round # 20 of swapping Q-jet for Holley (I just cant seem to get a Q-J to run properly no matter what do)
So yesterday I put the Street avenger back on and diddnt even drive the car.. I have this operation down so I can do it blindfolded.
Anyhow... I took it out to the store today and it just diddnt feel right..Idle was rough, midrange, top end rough as well.
Pulled over in a parking lot to take a peek under the hood and put my hand on the fuel line to check for leaks..no leaks but I could feel the fuel pump pulsing through the steel line..not just a little, quite a noticable thump each time it pumped.
Is this normal?
I dont think I have ever put my hand on the fuel line of a running engine before so I dont know if your supposed to feel it pulse or not.
Oh yeah... the problem with the poor performance was quite evident when I noticed the #6 plug wire just dangling there below the exhaust manifold
I'm running a Holley 670 SA without any problems. It was simply bolt on and go right out of the box. As far as the mechanical pump pulsating, this is normal. Not too long ago I bought one of Summit's dual feed lines for my carb that had a mounted pressure guage. The guage would bounce from almost nothing to over 15-20lbs at idle. Finally the darn thing broke and I've not bothered with installing a new guage.
