I am getting a 427 out of a 1969 Vette to put in my 1980. Any advice or shared experience as far as motor mounts, electrical problems, clearances or cooling would be appreciated. Thanks

I think emissions would be a factor I would want to consider before doing the swap. I guess it depends on where you live and what the requirements are.

Good luck and take a lot of pictures for us!!!!

If you use headers, expect clearance issues with the steering box. If the 427 is TOTALLY unmodified, you might have to have the valve seats hardened (they were designed for leaded gas). I think '80 to '82 hoods offer the least clearance of all C3s, so you'll have to modify/replace it if you're using a medium or high rise intake manifold. Your cooling needs will depend on the status of that particular 427 (even from the factory, hp ranged from 390 to more than 500, although the 500-plus hp motors are EXTREMELY rare). Big block springs up front would be a good idea. The car's original TH350 MIGHT not be able to handle what the 427 is dishin' out. Anyway, sounds like a very cool project. Good luck!

The engine has been balanced and blue printed with 10.5:1 compression and put out 425HP when stock. Thought about the hood, plan on putting on a replica 427 hood to clear the carbs and am going to put in a TH400 and bigger drive shaft just to be safe. I question the rear's durability at that HP though. Thanks for the info on the header and thanks TN for the input on emmisions,a subject I had not even considered. I want to have fun but want to keep it clean for my kids as well. Will take plenty of picts and post during the project. Keep the input coming. Thanks, Jim
