Add a MSD module and coil to your existing HEI, or Proform has the best bang for the buck and there is Performance Distributors, who can send you a new HEI distributor tailored with the best curve for your engine specs.

Go to the C4 parts for sale section and see if someone has a ZZ4 distributer they didn't use. I've picked up a couple that way. Brand new GM distributer for around $100.

Dude,

I bought an H.E.I. unit for my small block a few years back from Summit Racing. It was a 'Summit Blueprinted HEI' I've had my motor over 7200 R.P.M.'s without any problems. Its relatively inexpensive and produces
plenty of voltage for most street/strip uses. they also have advance curve kits for them. I'd buy another one.

Good Luck
Jeff

MSD. Their new modules have a nice adjustable rev limiter built in!

I'm with Vetteguy75. I've been running a Mallory for the last 2 yrs without issues. Summit part number MAA-8548201R. Comes with 4 sets of springs (1 installed + 3 other sets) and has an adjustable vac advance. When I installed mine, I tried the 3 extra sets of springs per Lars but ended up using the set that came pre-installed. That said, I don't run the engine over 6 grand and don't know how it performs above that. Bottom line, appears to be a good & relatively cheap HEI.

I had nothing but problems with my(made in China) Summit distributor, months of headaches three flat bed trips. Lots of advise from the forum but finally after nearly $1000 spent on new distributor parts for my new summit unit I junked it. Put in a GM unit and all is good.

Place a stock 1975 GM HEI in it with a performance coil on top. Simple wiring hookup and runs great with any HP.

PS, this old tech runs 11,40`s at 120+ mph

I know, the hood opens backward.
