New Battery Cables?
I installed a new, strong battery in my '79. Fired right up, life is good. After driving and stopping the car, kinda reluctant to restart. A few more times and it won't start....sizzles at the negative terminal, smoke and all form the wire insulation. I disconnect the negative, wipe the terminals of moisture that has built up, reconnect and away we go (repeat as necessary).
The connectors are in decent shape and the cables seem fine. The "washer" in the end of the cables has four protrusions that make the connection, on both the pos and neg. Do you suspect the problem may go away if I change the cable ends or replace the cables altogether to give a better connection? Is there anything that can be added (some kind of conductive goo) to improve the connection? Thoughts?
Thanks loads,
Steve
