Log on to www.dixiemailorder.com They are the catalog branch of Wheeler power products out of Jacksonville. I've had one of their shortblocks in my '69 Camaro for a few years and have been impressed. Car Craft magazine did a build up with the same short block I used. When I eventually get around to building the big block I want for the Camaro, I will use one of their motors. Check 'em out!

Be careful if you buy from out of town or mail order. It is best to get your engine built locally in case there are any "issues" after you get it installed, this way you can go back to the seller in person if needed. I have had a bad experience with an out of town builder, see "new crate engine - blown" in C3 General for my lengthy horror story. In a nutshell - if you do not stay local, almost everyone on the CF agrees - buy a GM crate motor from one of the suppliers like Summit or Jeg's. Good Luck!
I notice that the existing intake manifold has a water port and the Edelbrock performer intake does not. Does anyone know why and if it is necessary or going to hurt anything if it doesn't have that port?
they should all have a water port - I hope we are talking about the same thing - the place in the front-top of the intake manifold where your thermostat and upper radiator hose go? Am I missing something?
Get a GMPP crate from Summit, Jegs or even your local GM dealer. Good warranty and a new engine (not rebuilt).
Many of the lower cost engines that give more hp for the buck than GM use: old block, old crank, old rods, old heads, etc. I would hope they could offer a lower price!
