Default steering wheel removal

I was going to replace my steering wheel and my son wanted to surprise me so he went ahead and decided to do it himself. Came out, he broke off the horn button and now I couldn't seem to be able to take that one off too. Where do I go from here?

I'm not really visualizng how it is broke off. Maybe a picture of what you have and more detail of the problem will help.

that plate is a part of the button, you need to bend it loose to get to the screws that hold the rest of the horn

What do I do now with the horn button? It broke off since my son said that he tried to pry it out of there. Do I need to replace the entire unit?

Put it back together with small dabs of JB Weld.

when you get the horn button retainer (the metal ring in the pic that is still on the wheel) you will see how the holes line up on the back of our horn button, use the JB Weld (ANY LOCAL TRUE VALUE) and put it back together. Or buy new parts from Ecklers, Zip Prods, Mid America, etc.

Have you already replaced the steering wheel?

If not, the outer most ring, with the three little holes....just pull on it and it will come out. There are no fasteners that hold it in, just pressure. You can just use JB Weld to reattach the horn button to that ring once out of the column.

Once you get that ring out the one below it that has the three tabs sticking out and each tab has a screw in it. Once the screws are out, remove that ring slowly. It has an arm that extends parallel to the column and holds in a spring. If you aren't careful the spring will shoot out at you.

After that, remove the two offset screws in the center. Now, those held the screw in the center in place. Use a large headed phillips screwdriver and unscrew the very center. That is the locking screw for the telesoping lock ring.

After the lock ring is off, there are just six screws that hold the steering wheel in place.

Assemble in the reverse order.

you can just use 60 second epoxy on the horn button also, that's what I did with my exact same wheel.

Thanks Ak.Mal. Since the time I posted, I've been staring at it trying to figure out the screws that hold them together until now. A real walk through........thanks again. (didn't want to start pulling and break something more)

No problem. I bought my car without the horn assembled, so I had to figure it out using my assembly manual. I guess when you really have to figure out how something is assembled it just stays with you.
