I get moisture under my rubber floor mat on the passenger side on most any day. It doesn't smell like antifreeze - it smells like the rubber mat, so I figure it's water. Also, the carpet beneath feels dry. So why am I getting condensation there, and should I be worried/doing anything about it? Thanks in advance.
Rick P.
Are you having particularly humid days or a big difference in temperatures during the day?
If it's not anti-freeze then I would think that it's either:
1. Moisture evaporating up from under the carpet from a water (rain) leak.
2. Moisture evaporating up from under the carpet from condensation on the fiberglass.
3. Condensation on the floor mat itself.
If you can rule out a rain leak then I think I'd get a floor mat that "breathes" a little better. I'd be worried about the carpet and the mat underneath rotting if it stays too wet.
Two things. Does the car have AC? If so check the drain on the evaporator. If not I would look very closely at the heater core. There are no other reasons for this to occure on one side only.
Yikes. I thought the evap drain was fine because I do see water dripping onto the street when I run the AC. But maybe some is gettingunder the carpet?
As for the heater core, it was changed this spring (competently I assume); and I really don't detect antifreeze smell, so I don't think that's a likely cause.

you may want to check to see if the hole in the floorboard has the plug in it. not sure what year your vette is,but on my 79 there are 2 holes on either side, perhaps a little rainwater from a puddle went up the hole??
