I need a power steering control valve for a 75 I want one in good shape that I wont need to rebuild. also any suggestions on how to put this in I ve never done one. thanks for any help Bill
I found that I could not use a full size pickel fork to separate the ball stud from the pitman arm. I used a fork with a stubby handle. It was actually an air chisel bit. It was easier to get in to place a tap with a hammer.
It was a bit of a pain trying to get the valve to unscrew off the center link. Clean it as best you can with a wire brush. Use lots of penetrating oil. I used big channel locks with a rag over the jaws so I wouldn't chew up the valve housing. You have to pull down on the center link to get clearance for a full rotation. Also count the rotations and return the new one to the same spot.
My valve came with good adjusting instructions. Good luck.
I also got one from Gulf Coast Corvette. I haven't tried it out yet, but I can tell you that they're good guys to buy from. I think it has a 5 year warranty too.
These are common to all vendors, probably most rebuilt by the same place too. The used/exchange units are a crap shoot these days. Many are not too good and leaks with exchange units have been documented here for a long time now. I've rebuilt a few and had good luck but I would look into some place that actually tests prior to shipping. I think VB&P's was doing this but you'll have to check into it. There is a spec for setting the gap when you screw it on the center link. Look in an AIM and it will be in there.
Good luck
