well, in the process of replacing my steering wheel, I found out why my turn signals worked so bad. Bad turn signal switch. I called the local chevy dealer and, amazingly enough, they had one in stock. I went down and bought it, opened the box, yep looks like what I just took out.
Took it back home, installed the new one, went to plug it in to the old plug on the harness....no go.
After taking a close look at it, it seems the new end is about 1/16th of an inch longer than the old one. Close enough that it looks the same, but it ain't goin in.
Disengage and remove the individual switch wires and metal contacts from the plastic “harmonica” connector. Straighten a heavy paper clip or use a very thin blade screwdriver. Insert it into the “harmonica” connector from the contact side to disengage each wire and contact. There should be a small molded square channel in the connector that will guide you to a metal tang on the contact that holds it in place.
Once you depress the tang and pop the wire and contact out of the connector, you should take a small knife blade and bend the tang back out so that it will engage the connector correctly upon installation.
