Getting ready to order new spark plug wires for my 79. Decided to do an archive search to get the "skinny" on plug wires. Found out that they can be a pain to change out due to the routing path. I can see that some of my wires come out from under the engine. One of the threads I read was about a '77 and how hard the wires were to route. I really wanted to use some cool 8mm wires and some looms to dress up things. I'm afraid to order a custom set as they may be cut to the original specs and have to be routed the stock way. Does anyone know if the '79's are a tough route? Has anyone used the looms and cool wire to dress up? Any pic's?
Thanks,
Capt. Ron

I did not order a custom set because I was afraid that they may not fit properly, maybe somebody can chime in on this one. I have a 1980 a did route my as per factory. The plug wires for cyclinder 5,7,6,8 are routed through the engine mounts, this was easy to do because I removed the boots on the spark plug wires first and then passed the wire through. A friend of mine gave me a good idea on removing the boots if they are already on the wire, place some baby oil between the boot where the wire meets and use a small screw driver to work the oil around and the boot should slide of the wire, this worked well for me to remove the boots anyways. Let us know if you have any more questions.
Thanks
Did the wires on my 1975 and routed them stock; was a PITA but one member gave me the best suggestion, just use weed wip wire and route it thru the sheilding. After that just tape your wires to the weed wip, without the boots, and pull thru. Worked like a charm! Good luck and happy vetting

Greetings,
Stars represent the amount of posts you have made. It relative, but as you hit certain amounts, your star count goes up. It either represents the amount of your contributions, or sometimes that your just a post *****. You will find many replies w/an I agree or similar w/no redeeming value. However I digress.
Here's a couple pics of my 75 during an engine cleanup. I decided I didn't care if it was original and wanted it to look a little nicer than stock. Now of course "nicer" is in the eyes of the beholder. Anyhow, here's what I did to mine. Nothing fancy, a bit "old school", but IMO it looks better than stock.
As Captaiin Ron stated beausty is in the eye of the beholder... I personally like what he has done and have done something similiar on other cars I have owned... The wire looms are important to keep the wires away from any damaging heat, namely the headers or stock exh. manifolds. In the past I have used a universal wire kit... make sure you get the right boots with your kit, 90,45 or straight. ( I like the 90 degree) Cut them to the desired length, apply the boot and repeat for each plug.
by the way nice car... is it true that the red ones are faster? .......
In this case the red one is faster, but regardless of this I've found I can get away with a lot more in the old dodge van or the 96 Galant than I can in a red corvette.
The C3 gets looks and thumbs up from most police. The red one just gets stares.
Nice looking pic's! Did you use a made to order set of wires or did you cut your own. This is about what I would like to do.
Thanks for the posts!

Those are a universal/make your own Accel set. Took a little longer and a bit more effort than a "precanned" set. However I was able to route and then make them the lengths I wanted. Overall I am quite happy w/them.
Now the looms are a different story. I'm not thrilled w/the cheapie plastic. One has broken already. I guess they are OK, but I've seen some much nicer ones. I will probably change them at some point. FWIW.
I use looms with wires that match my car's color. The looms are easy to put together and work really good. They are adjustable to allow you to route the wires exactly where you need to in order to avoid the headers. I got the wire set that you have to cut and crimp yourself, so it's easy to route and measure to get it perfect. Way easier than I expected, and was my first time. I recommend it.
thanks. Actually I had bought them and not put them on at first. The wires on the car were new when I got it, so I was gonna wait. Until I decided to do a Bubba and tuck the wires out of the way of the valve covers to dress it up a bit. 5 of 8 got burnt by the headers, so I had to install these. The biggest advantage of using the looms like this is that you can keep the wires from moving and keep them away from heat sources. That's enough for me to justify the cost.
Very neat and nice Mr. Blueshark. Just bought the wires today and started to think about how to run them. I bought the Accel 8.8mm racing wires but the only color they had in stock was black. May do a re-think after looking at yours. Two questions please. How and where do those looms attach? Were did you find them? Also I noticed that you have a wire going to the sending unit in your head. Isn't that a temp sending unit? I have a sending unit in the same place but nothing is pluged there. My temp wire is plugged into a sending unit on my water pump housing. I tried to plug that wire into the sending unit on the head and the temp gauge went to zero and never went up. Maybe a bad sensor but is that the better place to take a reading???
