This is sort of a follow up to my last post about complete systems...I'd like to order the exhaust headers today or very soon. I'm looking at ceramic coated ones in the $250 range.
Does it matter much which brand I get? What about pipe thickness?
I'm looking at some on summit's site...the FlowTech, Hedman, and Dynomax coated ones seem to fit the bill. I'll spend more if I know I'll get better performance and/or quality though (Hooker Headers?).
Has anyone done any comparisons (dyno runs?) to see which setup works best for our cars? I have a '70 350/350 4-speed w/ rear exhaust. Thanks!
I know this doesn't directly answer your question but I'm running the Flow Tech's on my ZZ4, they fit perfectly and have a pretty substantial flange that might be thicker than some others. No Dyno runs.
I have done custom work on various headers and I found the Hooker super comps had much heavier metal then any of the other. I was a hedman fan because they always fit well but after cutting up a hedman and a hook in the same week I found the hooker a much better quality unit. Pricy but you get a better header.
Also heavier flanges to resist leaking

What he said! I got Hookers and then had them ceramic coated at a local shop- better than the factory stuff that Dynomax has according to several other rodders in this area. A little pricier, but should last as long i have this machine.
Hedman has two series of headers, the Elite are their better ones and have 3/8" flanges and 14 guage vs 16 guage tubing. You can also order them HTCC Ceramic coated.

Try getting the elite for the big block?? The only ones they offer is the small 1 3/4 inch tube. I really tried to get a 2 inch set but they are not available in elite just the standard grade.
