On my '81, how much of the dash do I have to disassemble to get at the brake booster nuts and linkage pin at the pedal? Anybody have any tricks? I can't see how to get in there without running the risk of damaging some brittle old wiring.
Thanks
If I recall correctly the nuts can all be reached by using a combination of extensions with a universal at the end. It's a real PITA, but I'm 48 so therefore not real flexible. If you're younger and maybe a little smaller than me it's actually just a routine under-dash job. You may not have to remove any of the dash itself to get at the booster nuts and the pedal pin (I had mine taken completely apart while doing a trans. conversion)- just take a good look at it with a flashlight. If you can see the nuts and the pin clip I would think it quite possible. If you can reach the clip it just pops off easily with a screwdriver
What tricks did you learn to reduce your time that much?
I did this a few years ago to the best of my memory: I used a flexable ratched ( sparkplug ratched) Next a 1/2 or 3/8 inch flex socket ( sorry don't know the exact name) and that was it Oh yaw and a flash light. the reason I did it twice was the rebuilt unit I installed went bad after a few months.
I just sit in the seat upside down and I can snake my way up to the firewall. Get a lot of extensions and you should be ok. Also what might help is if you have a shorty ratchet. I remember only being able to go one click at a time with a regular because of clearance issues.
