Default No idle-fixed

Sometimes its the simple things.

Did a tune up last week. Plugs (ac), wires (splitfire), dist cap and rotor (accel). Started it up and ran it at high rpm but when I lifted my foot off the pedal the car would not hold an idle.? it was fine before I made these simple changes and I made sure I put everything back where it belonged.

Now to figure it out: Did a search on this forum :-)

Carb? didnt touch anything but downloaded lars paper, read two manuals on the carb but could not figure out what happened.

Vac lines? maybe. check all the lines. even pulled them to inspect for cracks or splits. nada.

Plug wires crossed? recheck. Any wire hanging? just looking for something that was amiss.

Then it happened. Pondering what to do next and placed my hand on the distributor. IT MOVED-IT MOVED

Apparently the hold down clamp loosened for the distributor and it got out of time. In changing the cap and rotor I must have inadvertently moved the dist.
I never thought about the timing since I didnt try to retime and the car would start and run fine at high rpm. It only would shut down at idle. Fixed the setting and the car is now fine. Just like before.

A novice learned something new and just wanted to share.

PS. careful of those cheap chrome hold down clamps.
