Default Water Pump Recommendations

All - Replacing the water pump and looking for recommendations.
Currently running the stock water pump on my 73' 350 but very interested in upgrading to an aftermarket aluminum pump. Recommendations - Edelbrock, Moroso, Weiand, etc???
I also see that Summit Racing has a GM Aluminum pump for $109 - part # NAL-14011012.

Thoughts?

I have a piece of junk Weiand I'll sell real cheap. I bought it from a forum member, never used so I can't blame him. It has leaked 3 times on me. The back cover just will not seal. I cannot recomend a Weiand. I put the stocker back on and no problems. I'll replace it with a better aluminum one. I have heard good things about the Edelbrock Victor series pumps.

I've had excellent fit & service with Weiand wp. Whatever you do ... do recognize that there are short pumps ... VETTE pumps ... and long pumps. DO get a VETTE pump or you will end up right back here asking why that shiney new short pump doesn't fit quite right. Vette bracketry & pulley spacing is slightly unique & requires a unique pump ... or use of spacers/shims with generic short pump. A pump that fits a 69 vette perfectly will not bolt right up to a 73. Stewart components makes a very nice aluminum pump ... and has them configured for a 73 vette ... EMP-23103 .

For original looks & fitment, but high flow capability I used a Jegs brand cast iron high flow pump on my 77 build. Cooled well, never leaked. Much cheaper than the aluminum ones.

Get your water pump from Stewart; they make NASCAR-type water pumps in several different stages. The major difference between the stock water pump and the Stewart water pump is that the Stewrat unit has more impeller blades than the stock version, and the coolant will flow faster, thus better cooling.

Agreed Stewart makes very good pumps but if you push the coolant to fast through the rad it will not get cooled enough. Fast flow is not always the best way to go. If it was you could just overdrive the water pump.

I have a Stewart Stage 2 water pump on mine and it moves alot of water, no problem with cooling at all.
