Anyone know where to get a tach filter? I ordered one from ecklers and they said it was temporarily discontinued. The restoration store on this website said the same thing. I need a tach filter and I don't know where else to try? Anyone know a site that might have them? Anyone have an extra they would be willing to sell that is new? A used one that is like new and works? Let me know.
Just my .02 worth! My impression of the tach filter on my '75 was that it was just an inline capacitor. Anyone out there in C3-Land know the electrical characteristics of the filter( capacitance in microfarads or ?) so that an alternate source could be found? Thanks , Bruce
Here is a gif file that Zwede originally posted. It is a schematic of the tachfilter, they are very easy to make and the parts can be purchased at Radio Shack for $6.67 cents ( I know because one of the Forum members MIKER just built one from this diagram and bought the parts from R-Shack.)
One of the guys I work with even took his old filter, drilled out the case and replaced the insides with the parts mounted on a little piece of perf-board. Then the sealed up the ends (original wires poking out) with epoxy. Mounted it back on the firewall and it works like a champ.
On a previous topic, someone parted out an 83 Z28 and it has the exact part # filter hooking up the tach to the distributor. Also 84 Monte SS has one too. Perhaps this will broaden the search, for those who are solder-challenged. Joe

Re: tach filter (c5vette98)
I asked this once before, but I don't recall an answer.
Is the filter actually necessary? I ask as I had some problems with the tach, which were cured, apparently by by-passing the filter. The tach has worked fine for more than three years now, so it makes me wonder.....
The tach filter is essential to getting a 'clean' reading on the tachometer and preventing damage. I recall that Zwede advised me to NOT run a direct lead to the tach connector. I built this from his schematic and additional instructions and it has worked flawlessly for over a year now. Be sure to cover everything with shrinkwrap to prevent grease/grime damage.
