I have a set of QA1 Front Semi-Coilovers on my 71. With coil-overs adjusted at the lowest position lip of fender/wheel opening is 27 1/4" from ground. I want to get it lowered to 26 1/2" so I need to cut the Coil spring. What is the best procedure for cutting the spring?
I know you cut it off of the top section of the coil, should I stand the coil-up on end and reduce the height by the amount I want to lower it (e.g. 3/4 to 1 ")?
Any special way to cut it - die-grinder with cut-off wheel , should I spray water on it while cutting to keep it cool or do something else ?
You drive the car yet with them on? I ask because when I installed mine, they were really high, but as I pulled out of the driveway, they plopped down and the inner lip was rubbing on the sidewall with the slightest movement of the steering wheel. My tires are 27" diameter, so it would probably have been right around 26" where the lip was sitting.
