Well I bought a performance build 700R4 from my buddy that was in his camaro. I thought it would just bolt on my 76 corvette but apparently I was wrong haha. I surfed the old posts and I've gathered that I'll need to shorten the driveshaft. My question is why can't I just use a driveshaft from a thirdgen that came with the stock 700R4? All the posts I've looked up stated people shortening the driveshaft but no one has mentioned just using a stock 700R4 driveshaft. If I'm not mistaken the TH350 driveshaft is 3 inches longer than the 700R4, is there something about the corvette 700R4 that's different from the camaro 700R4s? Thanks for the help in advance, please help a noobie who's in over his head.

I used my old one becuase it was there, but there have been guys on here to use the aluminum one from a c4 vette also.So yes you can do it,as long as its the right length.
From: Arlington Va Current ride 04 vert, previous vettes: 69 vert, 77 resto mod
shortening the drive shaft costs $85 in my neck of the woods......as to your question perhaps the camaros rear end is a different distance from the transmission then the vettes is from its trans so it is a different length.....you also need a a new cross member or to modify yours....go to www.700r4.com for more info
Go to the web site and contact them. They will send you a list (with cost from them) for everything you will need for the conversion. I hear it is not a simple change over, but that it is worth it. I plan to do mine when the th350 dies (hopefully not too soon). God bless, Sensei
If the Camaro shaft is the correct length you can use it, but I doubt it is. Not that big a deal to get yours shortened. You can't use an 82 shaft either, the lengths changed with the later aluminum diff. It is a great swap, be sure to adjust the TV cable IMMEDIATELY- do not wait.
F-Body and Vette 700R4's use a different tailhousing and tailshaft.
For you, either use the F-Body 700's main case mount with your TH350's plate, or the S10 700's Tailhousing that puts the mount where a Th400's was, which will require you to drill a couple of new holes in the crossmember.
Either way you'll need to shorten your driveshaft, or use one from a 82 C3, and likely move the Handbrake Pulley off to the side a little to clear the Yoke.
Be careful of the pinion angle either way you go, and always measure in the car before you cut etc...

The aluminum diff in the 82 is not the same length as the ones in the iron diff cars. You can't use an 82 shaft in a 63-79. I tried, it's not the correct length. As far as the mount, you may can use the mounting holes right behind the pan (that is what BowTie uses), then the tailshaft won't matter. As far as I know all 700R4s are the same length and all use the same yoke (except 4x4). The yoke is common between non-M22 Muncie, T10?, Powerglide, TH350, TH200, 200R4, 700R4, 4L60, and 4L60E.
PS. If you don't use a C2 or C3 yoke, it is very hard to get the shaft into the car. You have to remove the diff to put it in.
Like Bob says, bring your driveshaft to a reputable shop and have them cut it and rebalance it. In checking my notes I had 1 3/4" cut out and it fit perfectly. That's going from a TH400 to a 700R4 out of an 89 pickup.
