Default Quadrajet Idle Mixture Question

Afternoon all,

I've recently noticed that one of the idle mixture screws on my Carb. is bent. (1974)

Any idea where I can get new ones from (preferably someone with a web site and willing to send overseas).

Also - I see the standard setup is to bottom them and wind out each by four turns, and tune from there.

On the Rochester, which way do you wind to make it richer / leaner ?

I'm guessing its an air bleed so that winding it further out leans it off ?

Thanks,
Jeremy.

Don't know about a vender; but to lean out the Q-jet idle, screw it in. The idle screws are more like tapered plugs then air bleeds.

Edelbrock should be able to help you out. The 190x series were exact clones of q-jets and the screws from a 1901 or 1902 should fit your carb. Check summitracing.com and search by vendor and see if you can find a part number for it.

If you strike out finding mixture screws, drop me a line. I have a few Q-Jets gathering cobwebs in my shed. I'm not sure if they all use the same mixture screws, but I may have what you need.

Be well,

SJW

Jeremy, try jegs, summitracing, ecklers, mid america...lots to choose from and will ship to the UK.

Slowly bottom the screws then back off 1 and 1/2 turns and work from there.

Have you tried any of the UK suppliers? For a small part like that it would probably be quicker and just as cheap to get it in the UK.

Thanks Guys,

Jotto - the manual says wind it out 4 turns and start from there ?
1.5 seems a bit light.

Thanks to those who said wind it in to lean it off - I don't understand, but I'll take your word for it

Also, Thanks for the web link - I've tried them before and had no replies - will try again though.

Jeremy.
