Quick question,..I'm going to be removing the differential and changing gears from 3.08 to 3.50's. The original posi is in place and seems to be ok, but I'm wondering if I should go ahead and replace it (it has 120,000 miles on her) or have it rebuilt. I know the newer Eaton posi's are better units but expensive,..$450. I have a guy here who will do my assembly.
If it's suggested I rebuild it, who could I ship it to who's reasonable and competent.
When someone here asks "where do I go?" or "what can I do?" or "why is my car doing this? ... often, the best answers depend on where the vette enthusiast lives.
Me thinks those folks should show their location (at least state/province) just below their CF user ID/handle.
It's quite possible someone may know of a good mechanic nearby who could help you with your diff ... if they only knew about where you live. I'm not singling you out ... & I'm not trying to be a smartazz ... just that me thinks way too many don't list their approx location ... when location may be important to solving their problem. G'Luck
With that many miles rebiuld or buy a new posi you don't want to this
again shortly. Have no clue to who has the best price on a rebuild. I was at
one of the vette shows awhile back, the prices were about $650 for a
rebuilt exchange.

If I go the rebuild route, I was hoping to ship the posi to a specialist,..perhaps one of the many cottage industries that do specialized work. For instance, I just sent my brake calipers to VanSteel for a complete rebuild, though I'm sure most any brake shop here could have handled the rebuild.

1st the new posi are not better in the overall sense. The cases are but the internals are not good in my opinion~fiber clutches, HD springs, less plates, and the gears are not as good as the 10-17's. If you have a shop do the job as them how they're going to do it. If the center pin has not egg shaped the hole in the case then it can be built better then stock and much better then the $500 Mexican made Eaton's sold today.
Good luck, there are a couple of guys in your area that should be able to help you, if not let me know.
