What is the recurve kit I'm supposed to get from Napa? Gotta pick one up tomorrow before I get the timing set.
I know Autozone, Oreilly's, etc have them. They are on pegs in the spark plug wire and looms section. Made by Mr. Gasket I believe. There is one for HEI and non HEI distributors

Most any set will do. According to Lars, you are better off cleaning and using the stock weights so the only thing you will be using from the kit is a couple of the springs.
I remember someone mentioned a specific brand to get at NAPA once, any idea which one that was? I thought it started with an E or something. What's the usual price on em? I remember it was only the springs that were wanted from the kit but I want to make sure I get the right kit so I end up with the correct springs.
Napa's line of ignition parts are branded "ECHLIN" ... I'm told that Accel was born from a hi-po group within Echlin. Only collectable to me, but I have brand new never installed Echlin-branded dual-point hi-po tach-drive distributor for chevy ... looks a LOT like earliest Accel dual-points.

That's the brand I was thinking of! Hopefully they have one in stock, I better call when they open, to make sure. I hope that recurving the HEI correctly will make the engine run cooler on the highway and get even better mileage.
I purchased mine from Advance Auto and it is a Mr. Gasket "Advance Curve Kit" #929G. On the back it says it is good for G.M. HEI distributors from 1974-1979. I have an '80 model and couldn't find a kit for it so I emailed MR. Gasket and they said it was good for the 1980 too. Per Mr. Gasket's web page, http://www.mr-gasket.com/ProductsLis...minselection=3, it says that model # is only good for non-computer controlled distributors. I don't remember if your 1981 model still has the computer. I haven't installed mine yet and it has been recommended not to use the weights that come with the kits so I only plan on using the springs when I get around to installing mine.
Had Larry at the Corvette shop install em and time it. 36 degrees w/o vacuum all in by 2500 rpms and it has about 16 degrees initial timing. Starts right up and drives nice. Put the correct gromet in for the pcv valve and got the correct L shaped PCV valve after I was done. Got a wing nut for the air cleaner cover and the bolts for the hood stand replaced, since the dyno shop failed to put those back.
Overall it drives a bit better. Not a huge difference but you can feel the curve a little bit better now. Fixed a vacuum leak by replacing the pcv valve.
Oh, and yes my computer crap is removed. 1904 + vacuum HEI
