Default '78 Front Brakes

I am starting to do my own work on my first 'Vette. The 1978 L-82 has 100,000 miles on it.
I need to replace my left front caliper.
Couple questions.
1) How important is it that I replace the right one? Its not leaking, but wife is complaining about cash outlay. (Gee whiz I already gave up shooting for the car)
2) I would like to replace wheel bearings. Are the ones that Vette Brakes sells extra ordinary, or can I just pick up a set at local NAPA store?
3) Do I need to drill any rivets out of rotor or as that just for the rear brakes?
4) If I use a penatrating oil to loosen the bolts that hold caliper on to dust shield, what happens if I spill some on rotor? How do I clean it off?
5) I have two jack stands. Where is the safest spot to place them? Or am I being to much of a worry wart?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!
Answers are:
1) You only need to replace the leaking caliper. Check the prices localy.
2) NAPA should have a quality wheel bearing. No need to wait on the mail.
3) No rivits to drill.
4) Clean up the excess with window cleaner and wipe.
5) Check your owners manual, or wait on somebody that knows the link to a picture.
When you've changed the caliper and put new pads on both front wheels (!) bleed the whole system. When you're done the Brake light in the dash will be on. Press the brakes firmly to make it go out.
Good luck with it.
