I have replace upper section on mine (cable + housing). Slight pain in getting housing from back of speedometer and resetting firewall grommet. Other than that no big concern, providing you can safely get under car to separate the upper and lower sections

The best thing to try first, is to disconnect it from the speedo, pull out the inner cable, and lube it with dry graphite, this cures 99% of noise/chatter issues
