Need help.....350 upper rebuild questions
have a rebuilt 350 (15000 mi) with mild cam(not sure what), alu. performer intake(old..lol),
headers(uncoated..show age),rebuilt rochester (takes forever to warm up, then its strong as hell, carb machine shop rebuilt it, more than likely choke issues)
the following is what I have bought or am willing to get...
dilemna between all edelbrock or mix and match setup....
what I want to do
-trick flow alu. 23 degree 2.02 heads or performer RPM heads
-alu. performer RPM /air gap intake (polished) (have hood clearance)
-edelbrock 750 /with electric choke conversion
-performer rpm cam (or lunati or crane?? or should ?? )
-roller rockers (how the heck do I pick which size studs ?? holly hanna choices)
-pete jackson gear drive (not geared for noise) gotta love the whine but not that much
-allready have new jet hot coated headers to go on and delta 40's/50's wanted
-edelbrock aluminum water pump
-march pulleys (to underdrive)
- have complete edelbrock alu. valve covers, alu. timing cover, pro-flo,
currently at TH350 and i believe 3.08.....last owner was not looking for more horse...(WHAT WAS HE THINKING ??)
in future plan to maybe go to R700 tranny hopefully....maybe go to 3.40/3.70 rear
main question is keeping all new mods matched for performance.....should I go with all Performer RPM ??
heads, cam, intake, etc??? since they were designed to compliment each other ???
HELP !!!!
thanks in advance !

HEADS: Trick flows are nice, you might also look at Eldebrock E-TEC 200 heads since you're changing the intake too. Much better combustion chamber.
INTAKE: How come you've got more room than everbody else? If it fits, use it! Trick flow offers an intake matched to their heads that is about the same height also.
CARB: Good choice. Also look at the Demon Road Demon if you can tolerate a Holley style carb.
ROLLER ROCKERS: 3/8 studs are what most of the heads come with. Let the cam decide on the lift and use 1.5 rockers. Spend money here, quality will show up in longer life. Crane Gold or Comp Steel will do. Think about a stud girdle if you're going to use heavy springs or a high lift cam.
GEAR DRIVE: Why? Chain uses less horsepower and has worked good for years.
CAM: Performer RPM cams are pretty wild for a street driven car. Look at Comp 262XE or the Crane PowerMax with 216 duration at .050 as a LOT of cam for a street motor with your set up. Should work good after the gearing change that you plan.
PULLEYS: Horsepower = heat. Drive your car with your new set up before you spend money on an underdrive pulley system. You may want all the water pump speed you can get!
For all of the money spent you might think about a crate engine. You don't get as much in the way of "go fast" sounding parts, but you can get 350 HP and a warrenty.
Enjoy.
- with my hood I have 4 inches MORE clearance than stock hoods.
- I ordered Edel RPM cam, heads, air/gap,750 cfm, water pump,
- crane blazer roller rockers
- MrGasket all the way around
- Petey gear drive (cause I am adicted to the sound, just not the geared noisy ones and always wanted one in my old car)
this car wont be driven much but for fun....then when overdrive comes I may tool to work in it...who knows....
my last hot rod ride was a daily driver...hehe
my last car was a '81 regal with a '76 olds 350 w/ forged pistons, crank machined, bored .30 over, 600 cfm edel on top/intake, th350 (1500 stall) B&M trans pak, 373 rear posi (auburn/richmond), duals, mild crane cam, olds 403 heads machined and milled......did 65 mph at like 3700rpm.....but I loved it..
I added a 2500 stall and drove it once then parked it bought a Z71...sold it to a friends dad that was down on his luck, (lost wife) for $500 still running strong....cant wait to drive it again...he is doing body work to it...
and YES....I drove it in winter with skinny tires and 350 lbs of weight in the rear...hehe...I was college kid that walked the talk and drove it 365 days a year...(worked a factory through college to pay for car, GAS, and college, hehe)
now I have the cushy job and want to play....can ya blame me ?
thaks for your input.....I am trying to do the best of both worlds...
crazy power, ok for highway and still keep it reasonable...
crate engines.....well I like to pick and choose my parts...
thanks guys...you did give me some input to chew on....love this FORUM !
Sounds like we will have very similar setups when you are all complete. I chose to go with the entire Edelbrock setup because it was all setup for each other. I am just a rookie when it comes to all of this component matching and I am pleased with what I got. I also wanted be be able to blame somebody if it didn't work very well instead of myself. Now if I could just get everything in tune, I would be much happier.
