Looking to replace the exhaust on my 1972 (small block). I've read through a number of the catalogs I've been getting, but I'm looking for what you folks would suggest. I'd like to keep things relatively stock. What should I be looking for? Is one place better than another to order from?
i have a 71 BB just bought mine from Corvette Central very happy, fits perfect(got the Magnaflow mufflers) sounds great. There are a lot of systems to choose from good luck with your purchase.

I have a 70 small block and I went with the same type system(magnaflow). I went with the LT-1 system though. It gave me a 2 1/2 inch exhaust. The only problem I have is it bumps a little when it is cold.
Had a chance to get the old passenger side muffler today. The center exhaust pipe was broken clean through just 10 inches or so ahead of the muffler.
In having a chance to look at things a bit, I was also wondering:
Do the systems from these catalogs include the mounting brackets to put the system in place?
Also: The mufflers on my 72 (I've had it just over a year now) appear to be fairly new (and in exceptionally good shape). I'm toying with just having the center exhaust pipes replaces, and hanging onto the mufflers (A pair of Flowmasters which are currently welded to the center pipe.)
Any other thoughts you folks might have would be greatly appreciated. I thank you much for your replies.
Unless you really want to repeat the mistakes of the past, I strongly suggest you take it to a GOOD independant muffler shop, and let him supply a decent set of muffs and bend the pipes himself...and weld it up....total cost should be much less than 400 bux, and that's with H pipe also....
wouldn't dream of any overpriced system throug stores of ANY kind....been there done that....forgetaboutit....
The corvette central systems are very high quality. I put the factory system on my 71. It fit perfectly and has that factory musclecar sound. It comes with 2 headpipes, 2 intermediate pipes, 2 mufflers, flanges, donut gaskets, and u bolt clamps. You will have to reuse your tips. Some things you may want to add to the kit are 2 clamps for the tips, 2 rear rubber hangers, and a new heat riser gasket. If you have a jack, 4 jack stands, and a few hand tools, you can install this kit for a lot less than the $400 a shop would charge you. The only hard part is removing the old system. A sawzall makes it easy. I don't know about you, but I like working on my own car if it's a job I can handle. Plus, I don't like strangers driving my vehicles.
I don't know exactly what system I have on my vette because it was installed by the previous owner, but it is a true dual exhaust (with cats) and has Flowmasters. It has a great sound for old muscle cars. But I'm going with side pipes so my system's gotta go.
